im hoping for a takeaway tonight and was wondering if prawn crackers are safe in pregnancy.

I don't think they have even been in the same room as a prawn, isn't it all flavouring?
Apart from the grease making you queasy, I'd say they were OK.

Oooh good question. I ate 'em.. big time! They used to combat my nausea believe it or not!

I've never seen anything that suggests they aren't.
Unless you go to a really posh takeaway I would be surprised if they had been anywhere near a real prawn.
Hmmm, you've made me fancy a Chinese meal now.

Don't shoot the messenger..... it's in my pregnancy manual.
aloha Sat 05-Nov-05 17:34:25
Which pregnancy manual? It's wrong.

There is no problem with salt in pregnancy either.
aloha Sat 05-Nov-05 17:39:15
In fact, you shouldn't adopt a very low sodium diet in pregnancy as it is unhealthy.
Blandmum Sat 05-Nov-05 17:39:20
And as it is fermented during manufacture it would kill off bacteria so no listeria etc risk, or so I would have thought.
aloha Sat 05-Nov-05 17:40:02
No, there are no problems like that with soy sauce.
peepee Sat 05-Nov-05 17:40:06
It says..........There is a high content of phytoestrogens ( a plant form of estrogen) that mimics the way your own supply of this hormone reacts in your body.
Reading on from this it appears that it is only a minor problem in very early conception or when you are trying to conceive.
USELESS BIT OF INFO FOR YOU
Also PEAS eaten in large quantities can prevent u from conceiving. It is classed as an antifertility food, research goes back to 1949. A natural chemical found in them was used in contraceptive and cut pregnancy rate by 60%. Men who took pea capsules had there sperm rates dropped to 50%.

Bizarre, no Soy sauce, whatever next!!
FWIW I ate prawns the whole way through both of my pregs as I missed the info that said I couldn't. Oh and smoked salmon for the same reason.
aloha Sat 05-Nov-05 17:41:08
I really don't think that the minute quantities of soy sauce that you can consume would have any hormonal effect on the body whatsoever. I really don't.
Skyler Sat 05-Nov-05 17:41:29
Wow Peepee. I feel educated now.
peepee Sat 05-Nov-05 17:42:03
The book is called GETTING PREGNANT, What you need to Know right now.
Forget I ever posted. Just eat what you want.
ENJOY IT!
Blandmum Sat 05-Nov-05 17:42:09
I agree aloha. Not proving to be a contraceptive in china, japan, etc etc
Blandmum Sat 05-Nov-05 17:43:09
just as a mindless factoid, did you know that eating poppy sead rolls can make you test positive for opiates in some tests?
Minute levels but still detectable.

PeePee
I presume you are a relative newcomer, otherwise you would "get" the sense of humour on here.
aloha Sat 05-Nov-05 17:45:42
Just checked - soy sauce does not contain phytoestrogens at all.
